Pentax Optio WG-1 is made from reinforced polycarbonate and aluminum; it is waterproof to 33 feet, shock-proof to 4.9 feet, crushproof to 220 pounds of pressure and even freeze-proof to – 14 degrees Fahrenheit.

Carbiner Strap

Optio WG-1 comes with its own carabiner strap which can easily be attached to a belt or backpack. Users won’t have to worry about dropping it or using it underwater; the WG-1 really is one of the toughest rugged digital cameras on the market.

Macro Shooting

The lens is surrounded by five LEDs which light up the subject of your photo. The LEDs provide even, consistent lighting, while avoiding the typical over-exposure that many people encounter with standard flash cameras.

Waterproof

The Pentax Optio WG-1 is waterproof and also water functional. In shallow depths with decent light, photos and even videos are clear and visible. At lower depths, the digital microscope mode and LED lights allow for great quality close up shots.  The Optio WG-1 was submerged in a muddy stream with no operational failures, although some debris did get underneath the battery and HDI seals. However, no moisture or dust was found to have entered the compartments.

The WG-1 powers up fairly quickly, displaying a focus point in about 1.4 seconds after pushing the power button. The user was able to get off a first shot in about 2.25 seconds. Single shot to shot times ran about 2.75 seconds.

It could be a problem if the latch is accidentally held in the door release positions. This would release the cover door to the battery and memory card compartment which may permit water or dust to enter the area.

It is short especially with GPS on. Suggest purchasing the second battery. The battery recharges in two hours.
